Since I bought my GTab last December it has seen many changes. Everything from TnT Lite to BoS have been run on it and since the release of Honeycomb with the XOOM many apps have started to become more tablet friendly. I know it's silly... but I have finally settled back into Vegan 5.1.1 simply because it is the only ROM that covers all the bases for me: Netflix, Hulu, HD playback with hardware acceleration, Youtube, fully working flash AND PvZ/Peggle. As you can see I primarily use my GTab as a Media and casual Gaming device.

Now I would like to know everyone elses story. Which ROM is your favorite Daily Driver and why? I'd be very interested in hearing from anyone who uses their GTab in their profession. What productivity apps do you prefer? QuickOfficeHD? More importantly, what tablet friendly apps have you found?

So... how do you GTab?

Cheers

I'm using mine for mostly the same things. I do use it as an e-reader, love Pinball(!) and do BBC news everyday. I'm running Brilliant Corners and did the Netflix fix but have found it un-watchable due to constant buffering. Anyone have an answer to the buffering problem?! Future use will be Google maps and weather aps when out camping in the little trailer. Just wish there was a GPS option on this one but I guess that will have to wait until the Next tab. :)

running Calk/Clem v6 and loving it. It's stable, and all the apps I use work wonderfully.

My main uses are varied. I'm an Elder at my church, so I use Quickoffice to keep documents organized and readily available. I use Adobe PDF reader for chord charts, since I also play bass at church. It sure beats carrying around a large binder full of songs. Lately, It's also been my media center. I rip movies and store them on the external SD card, then play them through the dock to my TV. It's so much easier than hooking up my computer with the monitor cable and 1/8" audio jack...one HDMI chord that can be plugged in 24/7, then just dock the gtab, hit play and we're ready to watch.

my son loves the games, especially while driving in the car.

We use it for quick weather updates in the morning, GPS via a BT GPS device (can't update while travelling, but as long as you don't deviate from the planned route, it works fine). Web surfing, facebooking, tweeting, kindle book reading, you name it.

It's unfortunate because I want to be running CM7. Netflix was just updated and now it works without needing a "workaround" so I'm one step close to being able to update. Froyo is already feeling ancient lol. I think I may just have to TB my Popcap games, load them on my phone and live without them on my tablet for a while.

I also use my GTab as an e-reader. I don't think I could live without Aldiko.

I'm also on Vegan 5.1.1 for the same reasons as the OP. I spend most of my time in an app, rather than on the homescreen/using widgets, so Honeycomb with limited functionality isn't the best option for me.

I do want the cal/gmail widgets and the ablity to use the HC only tablet apps but I do have to agree that the current HC ROMs for the GTab still lack certain functionality that I would need to make the move permanently. VEGAn does everything I want but everyone has their own needs and thats why I started this thread. I want to see what everyone else does with their GTab and maybe find something I would like to try. Happy Gtabbing!

How I G-Tab:

Mostly for emails and websurfing. I do use it to monitor my son's computer via logmein. I also use it for work a bit when I am out of the office on my boat. I wasn't able to use it for work much until I discovered logmein, since a couple programs aren't developed for android yet. It makes it nice to look at my work computer from anywhere and not have to carry my laptop with me everywhere I go. I have just recently started loading movies onto the tab to watch while on my treadmill instead of using my laptop.

work calls...gotta go.

I actually wrote up a blog post about how I attempted to replace my netbook with a G-tab (office use, keyboard, etc):
http://techcitement....tbooks-part-ii/

At the time I was running CM7, but I have since decided to go back to Froyo for a smoother experience. I was going to go with Vegan 5.1, but it seems like support has been dropped there so I went with Brilliant Corners. WAY faster than CM7, screen transitions are smooth, and now Netflix and Hulu are working, along with a BT keyboard (that took a bit of tinkering to get working, but I prevailed!).

E-Reader and surfing. Love to sit and watch a video. Shame the G-Tab doesn't get the love that I-Pad and Zpoom do. Bigger marketing .....

@dishe - I loved the blog posts. It was quite the fair assessment of the GTab and to be quite honest mine has almost replaced my ASUS EEE. That being said, on the go they are actually great companions. For most tasks the GTAb does everything I need except it is hard to watch Netflix AND do e-mail, etc. I like to setup the GTab to watch video and the netbook for e-mail/wordprocessing. Day to day however I use my GTab more because it is faster than waiting for the netbook to boot and more fun to see everyone go "ooooo" when I use it.

@wtkidz - So true but honestly Viewsonic was a little ahead of the punch with the GTab. They saw the market but couldnt see the true potential if it had been marketed properly. It didn't help that the TnT UI was absolutely horrid and made the tablet unuseable to a point where they had to remove it in favor of the traditional launcher. The idea behind TnT was genius (a launcher designed for tablets) but it was poorly executed.

I am supremely happy with my decision to buy the GTab. I did my research and I was down to the Archos 101 and the GTAb and the GTab won simply because I knew I wouldn't be happy without the Tegra 2 and because of all the work that was being done by people like Roebeet and Gojimi. The possibility of finally getting the 2.6.36 kernel without the help of Viewsonic has only reaffirmed that decision. The love and community support for this device is absolutely fantastic and along as we continue to support each other and stick together I foresee a future for the GTab farther beyond it's impending EOL (End of Life).

Cheers

New member here, and refugee from "that other forum". I got my G-Tab about 4 months ago and the next day flashed it to TNT Lite 2.0 Have since upgraded to 4.2.5, and have left it there because so many things work so well. Finally got the full market with stars, Flash and most other goodies I wanted.

I use mine mainly for checking email and surfing while sitting on the couch or while traveling. I play the usual Angry Birds and Solitaire, etc., but only occasionally since I'm not really a gamer. I read some newspapers and watch the hijinks on the stock market (and thank God I'm out of it), and generally play around with the Tab. I have some music on it, but as everyone knows the sound quality ain't sterling without earphones. Weather radar is awesome on the G-Tab, and I highly recommend RedSky (it's free and it's awesome).

I wish I could find some way to do Hulu or similar on my tablet - nothing seems to work in that regard. I'mnot a real movie buff, but catching a TV program I missed is handy.

I wondered when I got the G-Tab if I'd use it much, but it tends to get turned on daily!

It hasn't been until recently that I have used my GTab for more than fooling around with. I have played with a number of ROMs, mostly the HC variants but have found their performance lacking. Went to a CM7 ROM and I have been quit pleased. I plan on using it for meetings at work(viewing presentations) and goofing off at home. At home, I have found that it has nearly replaced my computer for most routine use.

This is my first tablet, I mainly got it for using as an ebook and comic reader, however after rooting it with Vegan Gingerbread, I've stumbled on an issue that I can't seem to find a fix for. My tablet keeps deleting all of my pics from my microsd card. I can put it in my laptop and transfer files over like apps, games, music, but when it comes to pics, it will transfer over but soon after installing the sd card back into my gtablet and using Astro file manager, the folder "Pics" is there but no pics/images. AS you can see this can be very annoying and frustrating, since a lot of my comics are in jpeg format.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this just Vegan? Should I use another Rom that doesn't have this problem?

Thanks,

Afrowookie

I use my Gtab as a laptop. Take if everywhere, I'm on in 17 out of 24 hrs a day. Its like my life (lol. Not as drastic as it seems)
And I am a ROM surfer, seeking the ROM that fits all my need best. GAME ARCADE, EREADER, OFFICE APP CENTRE, SOCIAL NETWORKING HUB, MEDIA HUB
