There seem to be a huge amount of tablets that are being released all of a sudden, that seem like great possible purchases - this definitely being one. I emailed Merimobiles about a 3g version a while ago which the said would be out quite soon. The one thing I'm a little concerned about is the battery life, as this battery is a lot less powerful than the T9 or Mid816r2 but was still listed at 4-6 hours by Merimobiles when asked, which seems a little surprising as it has a more powerful resolution.

I guess we'll have to see if it does the 4-6 hours or not. If it does, and Skype can run video through both caller and receiver (as in you can see /hear them and they can see / hear you), and a full Android Market then this will de back to top spot for me, seeing as it is apparently getting a 2.3 update as well. At the moment I'm holding out for the 3g T9 as it has 2.3 coming out and some say it has the Android Market now, but I would MUCH prefer the resolution of this.

Looking forward to the review!

Im still waiting for it to arrive.

As its really an updated build of the MID816 and when using the MID816 I know that the battery life is really good it should be the same, on my MID816 I can get a good 6 hours with wifi on and Ive used it at work as a music player with wifi off for about 10 hours.

Of the things you mentioned above the only one that will not be happening is Skype as video isnt yet available on Android (apart from 4 phones), Market is an easy fix.

I already own one from the very first batch and i am overall very satisfied. Waiting though anxiously for new 2.3 firmware.
I confirm that skype has no video yet, market works with fix. Battery life with wifi on is 4 to 6 hours, while playing some games and browsing the net. Having problems with some applications like tripadvisor and foursquare that give me an error message of installation unsuccessfull, through market or apk installation.
PS1. My firmware is official 0.9.6rc1, which is the best so far, as newest firmwares are buggy(wifi signal disconnecting etc)
PS2. Excellent gps signal, working flawlessly with ndrive and copilot.

4-6 hours with Wifi on sounds good to me, on a tablet with this resolution. That has really surprised me as I could clearly see from the tear downs from Mr Tasselhoff that both the Mid816r2 and the T9 have got 2 batteries, so I assumed the battery life for the M8 would suffer as it was a single battery of 3600, as opposed to 2 batteries at 5000 mah plus. Hopefully any singularity rom created would also be able to be used on the 3g + wifi version of this, as this is what I'm waiting for.

Hello,

I am new to this forum and I am also an owner of the M8 tablet. Mine is made by Sinor.
Unfortunately I can't share the same delight as you, especially about the GPS capabilites of this device. While my Nokia 5800 finds 6 for 20 seconds, which high signal, this device locates only 2 after 10 minutes and cannot make a fix connection to them.
Further more, I can't find a way to transfer the AV signal to the TV set via the HDMI output of the device.
The wifi reception is also poor. Compared it with Nokia 5800 and HTC Desire... not even in the same league.
In one of five times, device cannot wake up if put in sleep. Only option is the reset button.
After sleep in one of three time it cannot connect to wifi network.

I was using the 1.0beta firmware, but currently I am upgrading it to the final v.1. Will inform you how it goes afterwards.

Just realized that I forgot to put the latest 1.0 firmware. This time it's final, out of beta.

Hello Roger,

I would like to thank you for all the good work you are doing with your Singularity firmware. Since I am new to this forum and the tablet world in general, I have no idea what your Singularity firmware is, apart of that it's a custom made firmware with some applications added and some removed from the package. Does your firmware includes some system improvements for the tablets? Because if it does, boy I have a list of complaints for my Sinor M8! :D

I've tried all of the firmware releases since 0.9.6rc1. Currently I am using the final version of 1.0 (look at my last message above) and they all have several things that make this tablet grossly over-payed.

- GPS signal is equal to non-exist. I have tested it three times for 20 minutes: one in motion in a bus, one in my car and one time it stayed in fixed position under open sky. Only once it was able to find 2 satellites (the car test), but the signal was to low to be able to use them. I've rooted the device and tried GPSFix, but the program can't even start. Well, at least I can comfort my self that at least everything is connected in the device. No foursquare, no navigation, no maps... :good:

- WiFi signal is hectic. While the device is close enough (one room away) from the router everything works just fine. Go a little further away and the device starts the following loop:
1. Detects & displays all of the available networks together with the previously saved ones.
2. Negotiates the credentials
3. Displays a message "Obtaining an IP address" (stays that way for a longer number of seconds)
4. Gives message "disconnected", cleans the complete list of routers (both available and previously saved) and starts from the beginning.
... I guest this IS a software problem.
Edited: once you get close to the router and obtain an IP address you can freely distance your self to the previous location from where you could't have established the connection. It won't drop. I've tested this by pining the router from the tablet terminal. There was 0% loss in 100 packets.

- Often when brought from sleep mode, the device can't connect to the Wifi network which was connected to before it went to sleep.

- Sometimes (like one in four/five times), the device cannot be brought back from sleep. The only thing one can do is push the reset button.

- The device won't transfer Audio/Video signal to TV set via the HDMI output. Nothing happens. Video continues to play on the tablet, and the TV set displays "No signal" message.

Apart from these, which are like 70% of the tablet capabilities :nea:, I am able to cope with the other little annoyments and quirks.

Oh yes, one more thing. My two and a half year old son absolutely loves Talking Tom. I don't know what he does, but after a minute or so of harassing the cat, the applications just drops dead! :D

Roger,
I would like to take the time to thank you for all your hard work on singularity ROMs. I have tried them all now. UBEROID, MODROID, and your SINGULARITY V5 Final and yours is the one I like the best. You took an unbearably useless inexpensive Chinese M009S tablet and made a completely useful device out of it. Uberoid was good and also made it useful, but over all too stripped down for a beginner android user. The touchscreen was not as responsive accurate or controllable in the Uberoid - Modroid Roms. I could never get the WIFI to work in the Modroid. Tried all the ROM mods in the forums and nothing worked. Finally gave up after a week of trying. Didn't try yours yet because it was posted as not root-able and many were staying with v4. But I figured why not. I really don't need it rooted rite now anyway. as soon as it rebooted I was impressed. It was great having the three launchers because I'm new to android and and I can try them side by side. and see which I like best. Touch screen very responsive, I was scratching the screen from my repeated trying in Uberoid and Modroid. Don't know why? Battery life seems to be about 20% longer with Singularity. Again don't know why. Still working on some issues. Youtube, Facebook, Etc. But I'm figuring it all out. Market works fine but Link on front page tells me ins not installed. I have to go to the file page to launch it. After I use it for a few days I'm going to do a youtube review. I would like to send you a pound of our fresh roasted coffee as thanks. PM me your address and I'll send it to you. WE SHIP TO THE UK. That's where I think you are.

Thanks again ____________ Mike

From what I can see, my device came with a 2000mh charger with 3.5mm plug. Any old Nokia phone charger could be used.

On the other hand, it seem to me that you really need to have this:
http://www.dealextre...ll-phones-48596

It will probably charge your tablet batteries some four times longer than a standard power grid charger, but it may come handy...

Hi Roger,

Why don't you report the charger problem to Merimobiles and ask them to send a new one. Merimobiles is aware of this charger problem with some of the Herotab M8 models they send.

You could try this: connect the charger to the Herotab M8 and twist or bend the charger cable to see if the red power led will turn on. If so, keep the charger cable in this position with a rubber band for the time being.

Success

Hi!

Any news regarding a Singularity firmware? I'm getting my M8 tomorrow and would be a willing Beta tester :)

Roger - it's been AGES since there has been any activity on your Singularity ROM for the WM8650 tablet. I was wondering where you have been and what you have been up to? Busy summer, I imagine. Anyway, I just wanted to say you are missed. It would be great to add a Roger Calver Singularity ROM to the mix of ROMs for comparison. Thanks for all you have done in the past, and we're looking forward to more great things from you in the future.
