Hello! Could you upload v5 to anywhere else?
I have downloaded it first time, but got error while unpacking: "FirmwareInstall\ramdisk.gz is corrupted"(
Then I try to download it again, but it tells me "Please wait 1309 seconds to download" so loooong....
p.s. downloaded it again, got "CRC Failed in FirmwareInstall\packages\android2.2-froyo.tgz"

I did some googling and it seems adfree has issues with android 2.2. However i found an easy solution to get rid of over 16,000 ad/malware sites. Tested on mine and it works nice. Web page loading is much quicker now and most in app ads are gone.

1) Install a terminal emulator from the market
2) Download this hosts file
3) Extract the hosts.file to your sd card
4) Open terminal emulator and type

su
and give it superuser permissions
5) Type
mv /etc/hosts /etc/hosts.bak
6) Type
cp /mnt/sdcard/hosts.final /etc/hosts
7) Type
chmod 644 /etc/hosts
Now reboot. :)

Cheers

Very good!
For some reason I had to use:
6) Type
cp /sdcard/hosts.final /etc/hosts

I am not good in Linux, but I think you practically copy the hosts.final file from SD to /etc/hosts after renaming the original hosts file to hosts.bak. File permissions are also changed. Without installing terminal emulator I think you can easily do the same with installed Root Explorer?

BTW is the hosts.final the same as AdFree Android is using?

Updated first post with link for v5 based on 1.5.0. Enjoy.

Hi,

in settings it says 1.3.0 ?!
Is it a leftover from previous version?!

Cheers

Brilliant ROM!

I'm new to Android and bought the slow and generally horrible WonderMedia WM8650 from E-bay. The new ROM makes it usable and no longer sluggish.

Market worked for me first time.

The BBC iplayer is now stable.

Angry birds etc. is now playable.

Now have Root access (but probably don't need it as I now have Market!)

I had the problem with the touch screen not working, but amend the file env_uboot as stated in other posts in this forum which fixed it.

The install is really easy - copy a file and a folder to the SD card restart tablet - job done.

Cheers for such a top operating system!

Camera app - when launched hangs the tablet. I don't need a fix as I never used the camera, but thought I would let you know.

Cheers for a great ROM in general though.

I have a Blue LED WM8650 black headphone jack MID
after installing wicknix 1.5 I have lost wifi
but when I use singularity's 1.5.0 the wifi is ok
When I use the official 1.5.0 wifi is ok

Wicknix is your base firmware from the official 1.5.0?? (VERY NICE FIRMWARE BY THE WAY! - LOOKS NICE)
did you make any changes to the wifi configs, if not could you point out which files hold the wifi config so i can compare and maybe resolve the wifi issues on some tablets

@MetalFan: Mirror now linked to first post (thanks boertjeg!)

@rikux: Thanks for pointing my typo out, its now fixed. I must've been in linux mode when posting that. It is the same hosts file adfree uses with extras added.

@vladen1979: Yeah i noticed that too, however the build.prop clearly states 1.5.0 as does the boot screen. I'm not sure why that doesn't show 1.5.0 in system info.

@jonpcb: Thanks :)

@Steve B33: Thanks :) And thanks for pointing out the camera issue w/green led units. I read about what to change in the env_uboot somewhere to fix it. If i find that post again i will fix it.

@serpentshead: Thanks :) I did edit the wifi a bit to use less battery power. I'm currently at work on lunch, but when i get home i can tell you exactly what i changed. If i recall the wireless folders are in /etc/wifi and /etc/WIRELESS . It is based on 1.5.0 yes. I found a link about 2 days before it was posted on slatedroid and used that version as my base.

If someone can send or link me the working green led env_uboot i will fix it for camera. I'll also add the hosts file to block ads, try to figure out the oddball wifi issues some have and upload a v6 so that everything works out of the box for both blue and green led units.

Cheers.

Works fine in my blue led m900s. Like the lockscreen change! Hated that clock and weather widget. It looks good, and seems to be a bit smoother. Having problems with WiFi - though I have a sky router so that seems a problem with all Roms. It can only hold the WiFi for about 5 minutes before it drops out. Suggestions welcome!

If your wifi connects then drops out it could be interference. Have you tried changing the channel on your router yet? I've had good luck with channel 1, 3, and 11. I use to run into that problem with my zipit and a few cheap mips/arm netbooks. Changing channels solved the issue. It may not solve your issue, but it's worth a shot.

Cheers.

serpentshead: I edited the file /system/etc/Wireless//RT2870STA/RT2870STA.dat in the android2.2-froyo.tgz. You might try replacing it with the stock 1.5.0 RT2870STA.dat or maybe even remove the folder all together (i think that's what i read other rom makers are doing). If you figure it out that'd be great so i can have a fix for it. Just odd that maybe 2 out of 10 people end up with no wifi while it's fine for most.

Cheers.

I do get periodic drops, but it connects again right away when I disable and enable wifi. Also, I have no security (no wep or wpa). I'd really like to get one of the newer routers that has a secure wpa login for using the network and a guest login without security for accessing the web.

It was asked for, so here it is. Modroid-v5 FINAL is based on firmware 1.5.0. Basically identical to v4 with a few minor tweaks to the installer and a few other adjustments.
Also *think* i nipped the flash 10 evaluation version popups in the bud. In my few hours of testing they never popped up. I'll need your testing and feedback to find out for sure though.
Rooted
Working market
Green color for framework/icons
Apps2sd working again

Flashing instructions and other info included in the download.

Download (about 106mb) Modroid-v5

(How do i change the topic to say v5 based on 1.5.0? Rather than start a new thread?)

Please help me...
-----------------

Hi, I have been following and using Uberoid WM8650 1.3.0 HYBRiD HoneyCombMOD right through v3 to v6 FiNAL. I had no problem in installing, using and appreciating the work done by HCH, Dwag and others.

However, I was tempted on learning the development by Roger and decided to use Singularity. I succeded in installing it but failed to root my tablet. On learning Modroid-v5 has 1.5.0 and rooted ROM, I applied it on my tablet without realising that probably its not meant for my MID 7" epad.

Now, I have bricked my tablet and it stays blank with green light on. It doesn't even reach Uberoid/Android logo and I cannot apply back Uberoid WM8650 1.3.0 HYBRiD HoneyCombMOD v6 FiNAL.

Please help me...

Below are my tablet specs :

1. LED colour? Green & turns to red while charging
2. Vibrate on start up? No
3. Audio port colour? Black
4. 24 pins or 30 pins ? 24 pins
5. Which WMT version is it ? 2.6.32.9-default
6. What is your actual RAM Size ? 128MB or 256MB ? 256MB
7. What did the box label say ? Tablet PC - Android System

This is from "about device" :
Model Number : Wonder Media WM8650
Android Version : 2.2
Kernel Version : 2.6.32.9-default
Build Number : generic-eng 2.2 v1.1.1-20110217.154319

thanks!

I think you have the wrong env_uboot file for your tablet in the custom rom. By default, Modrod is for blue led tablets which have single touch screens. You need to change that file before booting the custom rom. In windows, look in the folder "firmware install/env and you should see two env_uboot files - one for green and one with no extra description. Delete the no name one and change the green one to be just env_boot. Not boot the rom. If it doesn't work (I have green WITH vibrate, and it didn't work) then you'll need a different env_uboot file. Get it?

I have checked that my tab sends out signals when connected thru ethernet port (cant establish connection) and seems to charge my android mobile phone when connected thru USB connector. This suggests that my tab has some life, however, its not recognising SD Card or USB port. Please help...

Have you formatted your micro sd card for fat32 and put the install files on again? How do you know it's not recognizing your micro sd card? If you can't recognize your micro SD, even after trying reset (paperclip in reset hole), then you've bricked the device and probably need to send it back to the seller for repair. But first make sure you're sd card is properly formatted with the proper firmware.
