UPDATED - 6-22-2011

For those that may be having issues getting the tablet to recognize.
Here is a package of drivers and an INF file I found that got mine working. (thanks Wayne Hall)

Link: MID816.com - Gingerbread Tablet Driver

MID816R2 - Running Android 2.3 - Gingerbread - Stock Base Image
Firmware Dated: 05-31-2011

I have uploaded the compressed .RAR file to the MID816.com website provided by our great Adrenalynn.
The file size is 208mb.

Link: MID816.com - Gingerbread 2.3.1 - Stock Image - 2011-06-13-MID816R2-StockBackupImage.rar

Remember this will FORMAT and ERASE your SD card.
I HIGHLY suggest making a backup image before replacing the existing one.
I also suggest trying to make a backup of any settings, saves, and personal data that you want to keep.
Titanium backup is usually suggested.

**PLEASE NOTE**
This is a STOCK basic image.

Imaging
There are many ways to apply an image file to a MicroSD memory card.
Below was my process. (provided as reference if needed)

**NEW INSTRUCTIONS** (No UBCD/Reboot Needed) - (Thanks javaman1966 and MikWik)

THIS WILL FORMAT/WIPE YOUR CARD AND DATA

Download: LockDismount0300.zip - 23.24kb
Lock and Dismount
Link: MID816.com - LockDismount0300.zip

Download: DiskImage_1_6_WinAll_Setup.exe
Roadkil's Disk Image 1.6
Link: MID816.com - DiskImage_1_6_WinAll_Setup.exe

Download: KNOPPIX_V6.4.3CD-2010-12-20-EN.iso - 700mb
Knoppix "Live" Boot CD v6.4.3
ftp://ftp.kernel.org...10-12-20-EN.iso

REQUIREMENTS:
All of the above software (Knoppix is Optional)
External USB Card Reader for MicroSD
Physical Tablet Device

SUGGESTIONS:
Backup any data you wish to keep before you begin

INSTRUCTIONS:

Remove the Internal MicroSD Card

To CREATE/RESTORE a Custom Image and Adjust Partition Sizes
1) Unzip LockDismount.exe
2) Install DiskImage - (optional at this time to Create Knoppix Boot CD)
3) Run LockDismount.exe (leave open) - **REQUIRED**
- Select the Appropriate USB Mass Storage Device
a) Check Force Dismount
B) Lock It!
4) Run Roadkil's DiskImage 1.6
- Select the Appropriate Physical Disk
a) Create a backup (store image) image of your existing MicroSD card
- OPTIONAL
i) Write the custom image (write image) to the MicroSD card
5) Run LockDismount.exe
a) Unlock
6) Bootup Knoppix "Live" CD (OPTIONAL)
a) Open GParted under Control Settings
B) adjust the 4 system partitions as you see fit
1) System (OS)
2) Apps (Internal app storage)
3) Cache (Temporary files)
4) Data (Personal/Public storage/access space)

Reinstall the Internal MicroSD Card
Boot your device.

**OLD INSTRUCTIONS**
The basics are:

1) Boot using Ultimate Boot CD for Windows
2) Remove MicroSD Card from the Tablet
3) Connect the MicroSD Card to the PC with a USB Adapter
4) Run Roadkills DiskImage v1.6
5) Create a backup (stored) image of the entire existing physical disk (for your safety net)
6) Write my image file to the included or replacement MicroSD card.
7) Reinstall the MicroSD in the tablet.
8) BOOT as normal

If you are "writing" the image to a larger MicroSD card, you can use Knoppix (Bootable) and GParted to adjust/increase the 4 seperate partition sizes.
- make sure you do not "mount" the drive as this locks the partitions and you simply need to unmount before you can modify it.

UBCD is booted on your desktop/laptop/home pc, not the tablet.

I can also share a created ISO... so you don't have to download the program and make one yourself.
Link: MID816.com - UBCD4Win_ReadyToGo.iso - 1.13GB
Just take that file and burn it with any imaging software to make your bootable disc.

Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows can be found HERE:
Link: MID816.com - UBCD4WinV360_BuildYourOwn.exe - 260mb
1) Create a "standard" bootable CD using the software
2) Boot your system from the CD Drive w/ the disc in place
3) Browse to the Disk and Imaging Utilities in the Start-->Programs
4) Open the imaging software

You can then backup your existing "physical disk" and then write my replacement one.

Knoppix is a CD/DVD Bootable Linux operating system.
You can use GParted to modify the "linux" partitions on the MicroSD Card.

There has been a conversation/theory... that perhaps the MID816R2 image would work on the newer MID816 devices with the Bena 8306 boards.
I have posted the stock MID816R2 image if anyone cares to give it a shot.
If it works this may help those who are having trouble with their original MID816.

Hi Tasselhof and betolley, guys you are doing great job!

I have a small observation lets say, i think you get this to but:
Original MID816 was based on Focus mother board, and this is the one, you Tasselhof, made a wonderful ROM for.
Late versions of MID816 are coming based on BENA 8306 motherboard, and your ROM are not working there.
And people can't root this one.

As i can see in the video MID816R2 is based on the same BENA 8306 and i just was thinking, maybe you can get a custom (rooted, full market, etc...) ROM for MID816R2 and betolley can try it on his MID816 (based on BENA 8306 motherboard)

Unfortunately i have ordered mine before R2 was available. And it's looks like mine will be the most problematic.
(second version of MID816 (but not R2) based on BENA 8306 motherboard)
It is still in transit, and i am very disappointing waiting for about a month already for delivery.
But as soon as i have it i will be the first to try and experiment on your ROMs.

Thanks a lot for your effort.
Andrei

I will eventually make a custom image for this device, but I was waiting until I could figure out the root issue.
I would be curious to see if runs on the MID816 with the Bena board.

I do have a Stock Backup Image though which could be used to test the "theory"
I am compressing it now and will post it and a link later.

g-sensor works, so slowly, but works
hdmi can not test cause have no mini hdmi adapter
I'm running 4gb BENa 8306 img uploaded at the topic "not starting up" (page 3)

Edit: Tested this MID816R2 STOCK IMAGE, boot fine but screen graffics buggin all the time, starting at "android" logo

Tass, have y consider porting screen drivers from BENA 8306 working image to this stock image??

Is that posible?

Possible... probably...

My personal knowledge on such a thing... near zero.

Tass,

Did you finally root the MID816R2 ROM?..

I could root the MID816-BENA8306 BOARD 4GB ROM changing some files (su) from another rom..maybe you can use this procedure...

Ok I know this is now an old tablet but I need some help. A couple of days ago I re-calibrated the battery as for awhile there have been issues, when I charge the tablet until it is green, I turn it on the next day only to have it say "connect charger", so I do and within 10 minutes it says it is full again. So I calibrated the battery went to play Jetpack Joyride which I had just downloaded and while I was playing the tablet shut itself off. When I tried to reboot it just stays on the two android dudes. I have tried to get into recovery mode which when I do that it says error in transferring block and just shuts itself off. I have tried plugging into my pc (which used to recognize the tablet) but now doesn't with the same drivers that I had before (although I do not have any adb files with my driver pack if that makes any difference).

So then I tried pulling the sdcard out (which is a 8g card) and using Lock Dismount and Roadkil Diskimage with the image from techtoys - http://www.mediafire...quujtjy62vo0qfd the Capacitive 09.14.2011 drivers still no go either. If I use the .zip file image in Roadkil it gives error code #0 at about 99% (tried this multiple times) if I extract the files from the image and use the boot.img then it zips through but all the old files are still on the sdcard - it is as if it has done nothing. If I disconnect and then reconnect the sdcard windows tells me the card is not formatted. Tried creating a backup image with Roadkil off the 8g but it errors at about 17%. I have also tried using Knoppix to create partitions on my external 16g sd card as it looks like the 8g card went bad which I did as follows:

Created
FAT32 primary partion - 16g
Extended Partition - 2gb
Logical - 1gb - ext4
Logical - 500mb - ext4
Logical - 500mb - ext4

Wondering if I did the above correctly. Roadkil still gives error #0.

Anyone have any suggestions for alternative software other than Roadkil or can provide another version of firmware to try as I have searched but all the links are dead now. I would really hate to think that this tablet is destined for the garbage. :(
