Thanks for the review! Mine is on the plane as we speak, according to DHL. I'm a little leery of the screen ripples, but it looked like they shouldn't be took big of a problem. I think the lighter weight will be worth it in the end, especially since I intend to use it mostly as a ereader on the bus and web browser on the couch. Just hope the screen holds up . . .

Honestly the MID816 has the same issue and it hasn't effected the screen life/performance.
I have had that one since December.

Tass, any tricks on the 0_tfdisk? If I connect a PC and browse the files, then dismount the Root Explorer, video players, etc can see files on the tfdisk. But if I reboot the 816R2 the files are not visible until I mount it on a PC and disconnect. Any tricks?

Sorry i am new in here but I SO WANT TO BUY that tablet but I am really worried when i've seen those screen ripples, heared & read about this from the mid816 but i thought it happens only when you press the backside... but it also happens when you just press buttons in front... kinda annoying isnt it?

is there nothing you can do about it? put something soft between screen + board and cables or so? anyone tried this?

Figured it out...in my n00b ways I did it via the usb connection and actually sent it to the internal SD tfdisk (not sure if that is like a shortcut directory to go directly to the external card?). So by taking out the card and doing it at the computer is much easier...keeps it from defaulting to the internal path and knowing for sure I put it in the right place!

You have to remember/notice.
In my reviews, the tablet is laying flat on a table.

That means when I press a button it is also applying pressure to the back panel, similar to fingers holding it.

hmmm okay, i am sorry for all of my stupid questions but i am 100% sure i will buy a tablet but its really hard to find a suitable one, with bugs/issues i can live with, you know. was already about to buy this one when i've seen your video, i think i just have to sleep about it... thanks for the patience, at last its my decision, have to live with it i think world isnt perfect

Okay! Got my device and have had a bit of time to play around with it. Here are my first thoughts. First of all, to answer Jan's questions, the market and cam seem to be working just fine. I'm impressed with the webcam, actually, and market loaded up Dolphin HD and Rockplayer just fine. I haven't tested the mic but I understand that it works well, too. Overall, I am very impressed. The device — aside from the screen ripples, which do not bug me — does not feel entry level. It's solidly built and incredibly responsive. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it's clearly surpassed anything I could have hoped for. Compared to other tablets I've seen videos of, the performance is screaming and the live wallpapers look great.

Main things I'm going to be using this device for are ebook/PDFs, web browsing and watching movies on the bus. I can already tell this tablet is perfect for those needs. As Tass and others have noted, it's got a great feel in your hands, and my Tintin PDFs look serviceable on it. Not the best, but that's partially because I don't particularly care for the stock PDF viewer and need to DL another one.

Video performance for AVI files is fine, MKV is a little stuttery at 720p, but I haven't given up yet. I'll add more later, but for now, it's just a really nice device, especially for the money.

Thanks for the information! Based on it I ordered one for myself. I have one question though, do you know if screen protectors work with capacitive screens?

I'm probably going to give the tab for my 3 year old to play with occasionally on long trips, so I'm trying to think of ways to protect it from the inevitable abuse.

Very useful information....I was just about to post something asking whether there is a car charger, hopefully this answers my question. I already have an iGo, I just need the tip.

I've had my MID816R2 for about 5 weeks now and overall I'm very impressed. I've used Mr. Hasselhoff's rooting script successfully, have even upgraded to the latest firmware that's mentioned elsewhere in this forum and have even opened the case and cloned the internal microsd to a 16gb microsd successfully (btw, DO NOT USE a CLASS 10, find a class 4...you will regret it otherwise as it is incredibly slow and sometimes crashes with a class 10).

The ripples don't bother me at all as they're really only noticable with a black screen.

The ONLY thing so far that I'm not 100% satisfied with is the lack of real estate to place icons. Even if you change the DPI, the distance between the icons doesn't change so you end up with small-ish and slightly fuzzy icons but essentially you can only place the same amount of icons on the launcher. ADW.Launcher gives you a bit more options, but, (unless I missed something), is a little slower to respond to swipes and doesn't allow you to resize the margins around all icons, just some widgets.

Overall, this is an awesome tablet and has an incredible amount of online support (just with it was 1024 rather than 800, but, hey you cannot have everything.)

Update:
I picked up an iGo a105e...unfortunately, it is NOT the correct size. The a105e is very thin and about the same size in OD as the center pin of the connection.

The dimensions listed appear to be right (or really close). I'm seeing 3.4mm OD and about 1.3mm ID which is a Radio Shack H adaptaplug tip...if it's long enough.

I'm not finding anything on iGo's website that helps me as they don't give dimensions.

I've also re-visited ADW.Launcher and discovered where I went wrong...but, I also found some really good reviews of several different launchers and decided to try Go Launcher EX. It's lightening fast and extremely flexible.

Update 2:
I found a car plug and adapter at Radio Shack that is working quite well. Part # 270-052 is a 12v 2A car power adapter that comes with 4 tips and one of them happens to be the H. I've tested and it seems to work very well.

I just Bought My 816 and find out that I have problem with my sd card... Card is plugged in and when I go to settings Memory etc it only reads internal 2gb... So basicly I bought this device and have no option??? if i want to transfer anything from my pc to Sd card I have to use a card reader? Via usb I can use only the internal card! Im a new android user so any Help will be great!!
