Everyone,

This is not a review -- you have to have seen, examined, handled and used something
to be able to review it. But it has taken me a couple of months to get to the
point of pre-ordering a Toshiba Thrive.

I have two G-Tablets which I use and mod and enjoy. I had an Acer Iconia A500 and
it was nice, but software glitches I couldn't fix resulted in my taking it back -- so
when they get the software together it will be a nice tablet.

So I started looking again. The Xoom was too expensive and buggy. The ASUS Transformer
was gorgeous, but didn't have ports. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 also does not have ports. And
Apple, well I control my stuff.

So what did I like about the Thrive:

1. Ports -- Full size SD card, full size USB, mini-USB, full size HDMI.

2. Battery -- sometimes my days are long and busy. If the battery won't last long
enough on a charge, you can swap in a second battery! Changeable battery!!!!

3. Wifi up through N and Bluetooth. Sensors and GPS.

4. Nice styling w/replaceable color backplates.

5. Android 3.1, 32 Gig Storage (for a price. Cheaper to get the 8 Gig or 16 Gig versions.)

6. Toshiba has plenty of info available and a good selection of covers, battery,
power supply, two styluses if needed, two docks, etc.

I have not heard much negative yet except from people who think it may not be
as thin as some of the other tablets. I care more about the ports and stuff
than I do about thin.

Reservations -- I hope Android 3.1 is a step up -- I haven't been real impressed
with Android to date. And though I will live with it if it's not, I hope it's not
so locked up we can't tweak it!!!

Soooooo, the above is not a review or specs -- it's just my thoughts on the
possibilities I see. If it doesn't turn out to be all I want, it will be my last
Android.....I will start the quest for a workable Windows tablet that will better
interact with my PC stuff.

Hope this helps you think things through. Let me know if you agree, or not (nicely!)

I was looking at this tablet as I have become somewhat disillusioned with my gtablet. I played with a Xoom for a little, and it seemed much more polished. I know all devices have their shortcomings, but I am interested in getting a Honeycomb tablet with a better display. I am trying to decide between this, the Transformer, and the Galaxy Tab 10.1. I am leaning to the 8GB option that is less expensive.

butchconner, please keep the info coming.

This tablet has everything needed for true interoperability with other devices. I will take the increase in weight and thickness to have these functions. This will be the most versatile tablet yet right out of the box. No dock needed to get the ports, removable battery and the quick charge function (90% in 90 min). I am looking forward to this tablet!

I'm jealous since I haven't got my hands on an actual Thrive yet.

But I keep hearing good things even though there doesn't seem to
be as much notice of the Thrive as I thought there would be. I
really thought a lot of people would like it and that it might be
the first "big" breakthough" among Android tablets.

In fact, I don't hear much customer interest about tablets period
lately. The Mrs. says it's the economy -- I'm beginning to thing
the Android tablet companies have just strung people along so long
and provided such crappy software and service that people have just
lost interest.......IMHO.

Luckily, I have played with Gtab, TF101, Thrive, HP touch pad, side by side this afternoon. The HP touch pad wins hands down. from it's gorgeous screen. supper fast touch screen view from any angles. It's as thin as TF101. Great build quality. I know it's not Android. But $499 16GB. It's HP!!! I have 4 HP pcs and printer for 5 years, never have problem. What can you ask for?

Ok, Android tablet, let's forget about Gtab if we don't have huge development going on here. LOl

I can't really tell much the performance difference between TF101 and Thrive, but from it's appearance and design. I'll go for TF101. It looks very solid built. half thinner than Thrive, metal casing. Not like Thrive's plastic cover around. it looks cheap. I don't really care much about get extended key board. HDMI out.etc. If i want to watch some HD or blu-ray movie, I prefer watch on my 60'' HDTV with surround sounds system at home. tablet to me it's OTG when i need it.

I'll go back to office depot again, as they have Acer Iconia, and Black berrry book listed but the shelf is empty atm.

I think it's because tablets aren't really offering anything new right now.
Everything coming out are tegra 2's. They all basically do the samething except one might be a little thinner, or a screen a little brighter.

I'm not even considering a new tablet until the next gen of processors are released, and even then I will wait a while to see how they actually perform.

That's is nothing to do with printer if the ink is dry out. I had 3 HP pc and one HP printer for 6 years, never have problems. maybe you just got a bad luck.

The Thrive is thin enough for me. I picked one up at Bestbuy to get a feel for it, no not purchased. I'm currently stuck at the Le Pan that seems to get raves and waiting to see the new Cruz T410 and the Thrive. I dropped Asus from my list and I keep going back to the Thrive and because of all that you just listed.....oh yeah Amazons new tab. But yeah I agree I want something I can tweek. I love my Toshiba laptop.......back to the Thrive again.

Maybe you have to get 2 tabs to make the one you want??

killian44,

What sane, rational person would not agree that more than one tablet is better?!?!

You buy them, load them, charge them, and then take with you the one that does what
you need that day.

Makes sense to me!

Just bought one from Sears. I was in the 90 day return window with the grab and put the extra money to get this. BEST DEVICE I EVER USED SO FAR.

I have had mine for about 3 weeks so far. Battery life is excellent- will go all day without recharging. Part of my job requires showing video clips, and it holds up quite well. With ES file, I am able to log on to my Windows server and pull my files off and load them onto the tablet. The GPS also works well with my aviation navigation software.

I like it. Soon I may Root it- but as it is I still like it.

Viking Pilot,

Nice to find something you are really happy with. Good to win one.

How about sometime when you have time write up how you are setting up
the GPS and a little more on using it? I don't know how many other \
people, but I'm interested in GPS stuff.

RevBC

P. S. - I have a small Garmin GPS (bluetooth) that I have been able
to link and work with -- but until I get better resident maps I can
only use it when I have wifi available for Google.

I just got one, (black friday best buy)... I got it for the ports and the price. it feels really nice in my hands and watching movies and games are good. I see a few things like cant get out of programs easily unless its programmed in there as an exit.. maybe im noob to it.. but thats the only problem I seen. I have the 8gb and a 32gb class 10 micro sd card. this thing is handles well.. no slowdown even with lots of apps running. so far.. I rooted it.. and flashed custom mod on it.. and I am not sure but have been reading other tablets are locked down. that would piss me off if I couldnt root... anyway.. im liking and probably will be loving my new thrive.

oh and gps works with the google maps well... fast.. nice!
