Update Problems

It would seem I have a ZT-180 v2 (not a v1 as I originally thought)
ZT-180A CPU @ 1GHz
512MB RAM
2GB NANDFLASH internal memory
ANDROID 2.2
The Build Number (which I am assuming is the Firmware number) is given as: zt180-eng AOSP OPENMASTER eng.root.20110324.120935 test-keys.
It is a G1 or G2 without a HDMI connection or camera.
I have the following files on my SD Card
system.tar.bz (from android/20110603/nand)
Zimage (from kernel/20110603/G2_batt35_nohdmi_nocamara)
zimage_adb (from kernel/20110603/G2_batt35_nohdmi_nocamara)
zimage_factory (from update/20110426/G0_G1_G2_H0/factory)
zimage_ums (from update/20110426/G0_G1_G2_H0/ums)
Zimage_update (from update/20110426/G0_G1_G2_H0/update)
But all I get at the end of the process is the message
"update zImage_update failed, press any key to cancel"
but nothing happens after any key press and I have to "Reset" to switch off.
Have I bricked it or is there a solution.
Thanks for your help.

It sounds like a G2 with 512/2Gb no HDMI No Cam.....you might open it up and check the mother board if it is green and a Jade V2.3 then here is what you need
system.tar.bz inand (the nand is for the V1 or B0 )
zimage and ziamge.abd you have the right ones
you do not need zimage.factory or zimage.ums
the zimage_update you have right
you will also need boot/20110603/G2_984_DUAL/ZT_G2.spl (if you wish to over clock your cpu to 984) Right click and save this file
or if you do not wish to over clock your cpu use the boot/20110603/G2_DUAL/ZT_G2.spl
Note: you only need to flash the .spl file one time for 0603 so if you try other versions of 0603 leave this file out but if you go back to an older rom you will need to flash the .spl file for that version (in other words if you go back to 0524 rom then use the 0424 .spl file)
and yes the firm ware you have now is 0324.....Hope that helps and if anyone sees anything i said wrong please feel free to let me know also you really should be asking this in the zt-180 V2 fourm not here in the zt-180 V1 fourm
ZT-180 V2 512/2gb G2 Jade V2.3 Green 1024x600 -- Battery IC (U35) Removed -- Battery Upgrade 4250mAh -- Rom Froyo 2.2 0618 No-Bat35
Nexus 7 16gb (Pre-Order)
If all else fails download the file again to make sure the one you are using is not corrupted
You would be amazed at what information you find if you just read the fourms and the wiki

Thanks for the extremely helpful info. Sorry, yes, my mistake - it'll teach me not to jump between forums - will this post be redirected or should I repost in the right place?
Yes the board is a green Jade v2.3 so I've used the files you suggested. The .spl file looked to be working but after rebooting I still ended up with the "update zImage_update failed, press any key to cancel" message soI'll dowload them again before I start cursing
Thanks again.

did you download the new system.tar.bz from the 0603 inand section that could be the problem and yes downloading all files again to make sure you have the right ones and that none are corrupted is a very good idea....i have the same zx-180 v2 as you and had a lot of trouble getting 0603 to work it took 2 flashes once i had all the right files anyway good luck and no do not repost in zt-180 v2 fourm i am sure it will get taken care of but it is best to post in the right fourm so others can see the problems and the fixes anyway good luck

give us the list of files your using and the folders they came from again on the 0603 and 0503 and let's also make sure what your zt-180 is again zt-180 V2 (G2) 512/2gb jade V2.3 green pcb with no cam or hdmi right? maybe you need to add clear_data_path file to your zt-update this is another file you will have to right click and save you might also try adding update_system_module also right click and save....anyone else have any ideas for him? and thanks om for moving this post to the right fourm

Following the advice from an earlier post, these are the files on my SD Card
I have the following files on my SD Card
android/20110603/inand/system.tar.bz
kernel/20110603/G2_batt35_nohdmi_nocamara /zimage
kernel/20110603/G2_batt35_nohdmi_nocamara /ziamge.abd
update/20110426/G0_G1_G2_H0/update/zimage_update
boot/20110603/G2_DUAL/ZT_G2.spl
I also tried
android/20110503/inand/system.tar.bz
kernel/20110429/G2_batt35_nohdmi_nocamara /zimage
kernel/20110429/G2_batt35_nohdmi_nocamara /ziamge.abd
update/20110426/G0_G1_G2_H0/update/zimage_update
boot/20110421/G2_DUAL/ZT_G2.spl
I'll try adding the other 2 files to the list.
And it is definitely a Jade v2.3 board with no HDMI output or camera.

Yes. ZT_G2.spl runs and then the system reboots. It the runs through (very quickly - too quickly to read) various files and the ends up with the message "update zImage_update failed, press any key to cancel". I don't know if it's a failure because it can't find it - but it is definitely on the card.

Hmmmm you have the right files and if the zt_G2.spl runs then you have the files in the right folder zt-update so it just about has to be a corrupted file one of the zlmage files so something wrong with the sdcard it self are you sure it is good? have you used it in anything else (i have bought bad ones in the past that let me fill them up but only run a few files) is there anything else on the sdcard? if so try removing everything except the zt-update folder and reinstall the files in it. i am just guessing at this point because you have all the right files and if they are not corrupted i am not sure where to go from here anyone else have any ideas that might help him? If your not sure about the sdcard i know a prg that will test it but it takes hours the fastest way i have found is to fill it with music or video and see if it plays again just guessing

The only items on the card are the zt-update folder and the files. I've used 3 different SD cards all of which I've used in my mobile phone and which I've formatted to Fat32 and then only used for the updates. All the files were downloaded from the ZT FTP site.
But I'll get a couple more SD cards and download each file again and give it another try.
Thanks for taking the time to try to sort this out for me

Sorry Herkfrog - persevering not selling. Yet.
I've downloaded the Official 0503 ROM as suggested and I'm waiting for the delivery of some new SD cards. Problem is I'm working 3 x 16 hour shifts so I probably wont get a chance to try anything til the end of the week. But I will let you know how I get on - feedback is what forums are all about.

I think the moral of the tale is use the Official ROM source in future. I'll stick with what I've got until another upgrade ROM is listed on the official site.
So many thanks once again to Herkfrog and Omarahum for their patience in guiding this Newbie through a seemingly simple yet proven to be daunting process.
