I am hoping somebody can help, I a ZT180a 1024x576( model:ZT1802ASRTA1020S5 ) running its original firmware 2.1

I have tried to upgrade to the early version of 2.2 using otg and burntool 7.41
Upgrade success, the pad will boot to the main screen then crash or only boot to the Epad logo and then freeze.
Now i have even tried this new 2.2 firmware, formated TF Card, loaded all the files into the zt-update folder and placed on root of TF card.
Hold down power and return button but nothing happens, Black screen.
The problem now is that the files keep vannishing off the TF Card everytime i insert card back into my pc the zt-update folder is now empty.

What am i doing wrong?

Cheers, Brian

I think you need to update the spl using the usb method first. After that you can update by TF card.

If you hadn't an updated SPL before, you'll need to do that first. Place the SPL files only in the zt-update folder on you TF Card. Have the power OFF -->place TF Card in reader -->hold down Left Menu button and press the power button till the Tab start's --> don't release the Left Menu button till the update process starts.

That should work.

Update first to 3-28 Firmware and after that to the 6-04 Firmware.

If you get an "normal" DOS screen while upgrading, showing each different step done by the software on screen (runs fast and the screen is scrolling), and will just hold at the last line showing the SD Card conf, wait a moment (1-2min) and use the RESET button of the Tab and start the tab normally. I had that twice and it worked on that way. But I had to reformat the TF Card after that because I couldn't read anymore on the Tab from it.

your method is in risk.
1 must keep power and AC on.( please see readme first)
2 just flash spl and boot one time from burntool 7.41. Then don't copy spl again to sdcard.(If burntool not work but boot show, it think it success flashed new spl/boot. if you hold update key and black,it's reason you don't update spl and boot sucess by burn tools)
3 format the sdcard to fat32 and copy firmware to zt-update folder and press update key.
4 all step auto reboot, don't tiny reset hole forever.

be careful renew spl/boot. it will brick your pad.

1. I allways use only fully charged batteries plus connected power if flashing firmware;

2. as I wrote, I use the SPL and BOOT files only in zt-update for to burn SPL! after that I reformat the TF Card and use only the required firmware files for to flashing

3. TF Cards up to 4 GB will be for automatically formated as FAT while above will be formatted to FAT32. I tested a 2GB TF Card as FAT and it's just working fine.

4. Twice I had to use the Reset button for to get the Tab back working. Both it were after waiting more than an hour for to auto-reboot. After using the Reset button, the tab started normally with the new firmware. I tested the third time and had run the tab without Reset for 1.5h, leaved my office for about 3h and as I came back, the tab were restarted already. Don't know how long it has need but for sure more than 1.5h!! I than tested again and used the Reset button just 2min after the tab stopped and all went fine again.

If I hadn't tested it this way, I wouldn't had posted that procedure. I don't know about the older MB/s, mine is Ruby 1.4 with an 600 screen.

Anyway, thanks for your answer and the warning given.

Ok i managed to install old 2.1 firmware, now i have dowloaded 10inch_2GB+256MB_android_2.2 firmware and put onto formatted TFcard in update folder.
Powerd up into boot mode but nothing happend, black screen then after few minutes the e-logo appears on screen and stays there for ever!!
Now using the burntool 7.41 i have loaded the files from the 10inch_2GB+256MB_android_2.2 firmware and noticed there is no ZT_Bx.boot so i used a copy from another site, burned images and presto i have a working tab!

The details are:

mod: zt180
android_2.2
Kernal Version 2.6.32.9
root@android 1995
build number: zt180-eng AOSP OPENMASTER eng.root.20110324.120935 test-keys

Now how do it get it to the next upgrade?

Cheers, Brian

For flashing via the sdcard method, you need to turn the tablet on first, then as soon as you see the epad logo, press the left toggle/volume key, then it will scan your your sdcard zt-update folder and flash the ROM. I think you having trouble before because you were using the old method 'thats used for the burntool. Which ROM are you trying to flash now? Whichever one it is, you should read throught the thread for that ROM, or read the readme file on the ftp...

ZT-180 v1 256MB/2GB

Thanks for the help guy's but i seem to be hitting a brick wall with this upgrade info :-(

I have checked the threads on this site but most firmware i have downloaded for my Tab is for Tf upgrade and i can oly upgrade to firmware 1204 using burntool, the next upgrade requires me to boot using the zt-update on my TF card but i ahve tried power and side button and power and left button but nothing as my tab just boots up to android.
Can i use burntools to install the 0326 firmware, if so i can not find a uboot.img in any of these downloads?

Cheers, Brian

Did you see words 'Menu update' just beneath 'ePAD' (for some seconds) when the tablet is powered on ?
If not - it means you flashed wrong ZT_bx.boot.

No, can't see any menue when i power on tab.

mmm! then am way confused as i dont know which is the correct one for my system, how would i find out?

This makes sense as when i do manage to upgrade to 2.2 android everything works fine until i restart the tab and nothing, no boot as it stuck on e logo.

If you don't see update option under e-Pad logo you should probably update the boot file via burntool first and than install the new FW..
ZT-180v1(256Mb/2Gb):

-HW: ruby 1.4/576 screen
-ROM: 0603

MODS to do:

-GPS stick to buy and maybe put the GPS + 3G stick inside with a HUB ( soldered where the wifi stick is)

P.S. I'm still waiting for the GPS since I haven't still understood if Zenithink wants to support it or not in official ROM :)

You need to flash the ZT_Bx.boot (press round button in front to select to flash it when prompted to), that should enable it to find the zImage_update, that will find the system.tar.bz.....
