How to root / install custom roms and add Android Market for CVS Craig CMP 738a $75 Android tablet
Except you don't need BatchUpgrade for anything but Flush's 2.2 v2. You don't need it for v1 or Shad's 4.3.
BTW, I took my 2nd one back and they gave me a full refund even tho I bought it with a 25% off coupon. So I got this one for $46 + tax (they actually gave me more than 25% off). I guess they make so much money pushing drugs they don't sweat these little items.
Also BTW, the secret to getting 2.2 to run fast is to run ES Task Manager after startup. I haven't found any auto-killer that works as well.

2. make sure that usb debugging is turned off.
3. also make sure that under usb connections (on tablet) host mode is turned off (uncheck).
4. plug usb cable between tablet and PC
5. after you hook to pc under the usb connections tab on the cmp738a you have to push a button on the bottom of the screen that turn on the usb connection to pc.
6. Open my computer your two drives should now be visible there.
update for step 5: to find the button in question, look in the task/notification bar (there will be 1 or 2 new icons there, USB symbol and an android like bug) at the top and pull it down. You will then see a message saying "USB Connected", clicking on this will show the button in question.
The changes for step 2 can also be made from the dropdown notices (usually listed above the "USB connected" message if debug mode was previously active).
first of all kudos for everyone that has helped so far in this thread.
I would like to say before any one says "search the forum" that I have read every page since page 3 of this thread (where Google dropped me) to the end and haven't seen this mentioned.
I am using Vista Home Premium edition, and flush's rom on a CMP738a tablet.
When I connect the CMP738a to the computer after setting it in non-host mode, I tell the tablet to allow for remote storage access (per above instructions). My computer wants drivers for "Android Phone" each and every time (and can't find the proper drivers locally or online) and the most it shows for a drive is 1 and it is needing media (insert disk into drive J:).
This is the same computer that I flashed flush's rom with. As for the drivers, using Linux (love Knoppix live CD) I deleted the main and backup copies of the rk281x.* files (why Linux, because in normal and safe mode, I the administrator couldn't delete the files under Windows). After rebooting, I get the same conditions as before (1 drive needing media, if any, and looking for "Android Phone" drivers request). 2 devices may show up under the USB Mass Storage Device connections, with the name "rockchip rk28 sdk demo USB Device", that may or may not be accessible (i.e. need media).
Meanwhile, on the tablet's side, its just sitting there behaving with its little USB arm up in the air patently waiting for my next instruction.
Also, I've seen a mention of apps that can be uninstalled (attributed to Hardryve, but posted by Charlie Summers - mainly just Google related apps). Does any one have a list of other system apps that can be safely removed or a link with such).
P.S. about flash on flush's rom: I have been able to play flv files but not swf files.

Per 4shared:
"This file is no longer available because of a claim by LeakID."
Every time I pick this tablet up, it just seems to frustrate me. The official Craig roms are horrible. I did enjoy Shad's 4.3 rom which I installed and played with earlier today, but I need 2.2 to be able to use Skifta, so I installed the rooted stock rom, only to be frustrated and hindered at every turn. I want Froyo's custom rom! Can anyone help me?

I have one of these little gems!
I am really missing the Market. And I have been reading many many forum posts on rooting, flashing custom ROMs, etc. But I am hesitant to flashing a ROM and turning it into a brick. To be honest, all these posts on flash this, rktools that, root or not root is making my head spin!
I understand that rooting it (may or may not) allow me to uninstall system apks. I have z4root installed and permanent root does not work, but temporary does. No matter what post I read about doing things with it rooted, I cannot make it work.
Is there a clean, easy way to install the Market on this little beast, and remove the apps that are no longer necessary (the crappy default Launcher, SlideMe, Shelves, Book Club, etc)?
I am using Adobe Reader and I have seen custom ROMs that give me the Market, but loose Adobe Reader.
One other thing is that I know Froyo allows the ability to move apps to the SD card, but this has never worked (give an error that the operation was unsuccessful). Will a custom ROM fix this? I have not seen any posts giving a particular ROM fixes/does not fix this issue.
And lastly the WiFi on this seems a bit touchy. It seems that if I let the device just boot and do nothing for 5 minutes, it connects to any of my saved AP. But if I start an app, it takes forever to connect. Sometimes I turn WiFi off then on a couple of times. I use WiFi Analyzer and it does not seem to help even taking it out of auto scan and doing the scan manually.
I am sure I am asking for the moon to make everything work flawlessly. And I must admit, this is not a bad tablet for the price! Cannot beat that $99 at CVS!
Thanks in advance for your help and for everyone's patience!
