now there are many "versions" of angry birds on the market. Which one should we work on?

Hey davgar,
Like I mentioned, I already handed the CMP738a over to my big fraternity brother as an early birthday present. Until he brings it back over to my place in the future, I can't do any more work.

As for which angry brids to install, the original, Rio & Seasons are separate games. I believe the original has the low graphics detail option.
Also, there should be both the "free" version of each, which features ads when online (which slow down the game, grrr), and the $1 USD "ad-free" versions.
I would say to pay $1 for the best game in human history; try to get the original angry birds "ad-free" to work with low graphics detail going.

If you use a custom rom,...the craig is rooted,...so just get the free original angry birds with ads, and install ad-free android, to disable all adds on free programs and doesnt slow down the craig. Then turn off backrounds in angnry birds.

Then you have the best game without adds for free.

Hey dhr09,

I think I got the version without the "background off" option. But the ad-free android app works!
Still a bit slow but faster than before.

Thanks again!

Hi world,
I'm really new to Android, so hope you'll be indulget to my newbie's question :-)
Today I put "update.img" onto SD,power cycle my cmp738a and wait for start-up.

... Well...
Looks like I have a greate chance to know my Droid little deeper :-)
because process was not complited successfully :-|

Apparently it trying to start correctly, I even see "ANDROID"-logo.

Over ttyS0 I got:

Hi world,
I'm really new to Android, so hope you'll be indulget to my newbie's question :-)

Over ttyS0 I got:

...

So it still alive!!! ;-)

But now, I need some help to know: is it possible to rebuild my Droid over serial port?
I meen, is it possible to stop boot sequence and put missing files on good places?

Many thanks :-)

You wrote a very polite post and seem to have a positive attitude so I'll do my best to help....flush's rom can only be installed by using the rkbatch utilities and although I didn't look it should say that somewhere in his first post.....the good news is your tablet is just fine and can be saved.....you need to grab the rkbatch utilities and follow the instructions to flash a rom to your tablet using your pc instead of the update.img method. There should be posts with more detail on the forum but in a nutshell you run the rkbatchupgrade program and hook up your tablet after putting it into flashable mode...you select the rom from within the program and tell it to flash and it does.

Putting the tablet into flashable mode: Slide the power slider on side of tablet to the OFF position. While holding down the first button (home) on the tablet plug the usb cable (which should already be plugged into the tablet) to the pc....if you are in the rkbatchupgrade program on the pc already in lower left of screen you'll see that flash area 1 turns green indicating it's found and ready to flash...you probably wont see much on the tablet.

*update*

I borrowed this from another post:

Instructions:

1. Start RKAndroidBatchUpgrade from rktools folder
2. Power off your tablet
3. Press & hold back/esc key
4. While holding, connect PC and tablet with USB cable (if tablet boot normally, try again)
(if it's first time, install driver)
5. Tablet should be recognized as "RK281X Device" in Windows, and orange mark in Device Upgrade Area will turn green in RKAndroidBatchUpgrade window
6. Click "..." right side of "[v]Image [ ]" in Setting in RKAndroidBatchUpgrade
7. After you select update.img from PC, then Boot:, Version:, and Date will fill in on their own.

Then you are OK to flash, click Upgrade button & wait until finished, be patient it does take a bit.

Tablet will reboot twice, wipe data/cache after 1st reboot, then normal boot after 2nd reboot. It takes time. Please wait several minutes.

Thank you very much for easy to follow "to-do" sequence.
My Droid comes back to normal :-) oh, happy day ! ;-)

I just still curious about this tiny usefull part "ttyS".
As per specification of rk2818 - ttyS0 is hardware part or chip itself.
Easy to compare flow of information in two setups:
1) programm running on CPU get information over other chip (which care obout USB-OTG) thru USB-BT adapter from BT-GPS (all gps has internal uart plugget to bt).
2) programm running on CPU get information over own hardware from GPS (directly over uart)

Obviously second approach will consume less power (less chips involved) even if it less elegant (old-fashion wiring)
BTW, comunicate with other microcontrollers is easyer over 3.3v asynchronus serial port then debuggin with adapters.

Todays question is - can i have easy access to it via software level without disturbing the system? For sure i have no deep understanding of the way Android share resources, and i see system messages gos from ttyS even if system running fine. So,
if i put string to ttyS will it disturb calls from system?

Thanks again

Take a look at the android development kit and specifically the adb command....it allows alot of "command line level" access to the machine...ttyXX just indicates a "teletype" connection...for example on some phones ttyUSB0 is the phone for old dial up connections, ttyS0 was serial port 1....ttyS1 serial port 2...etc......the gps does have an internal "serial port" or is at least referenced as one....you'll need to look more into development level documentation to access the phone at such a low level and it's not something the typical user is going to be interested in.

On Virtual Keyboard

==================================================

Not sure what happened just today but my virtual keyboard "stopped working". Does anyone have an idea how to turn it on? What could be the reason (software, etc) which could have disabled the keyboard?

I'd go to settings > keyboard .... the only thing that opens up is "Input Method"...and no choice(s) whatsoever. Is it a launcher problem?

Any help is much appreciated.

What do i need to do ? All i was trying to do is make this 2.1 tablet better and faster by upgrading it to 2.2 and i was hoping i could get the market working. Can someone please help me bring this tablet back to life?

Thank you,

To get the driver installed you have to use the method I posted earlier to put the tablet into "flashable mode" involving turning power slider off and holding down "home" button while plugging the usb cable into the pc. If you did it correctly the pc will beep indicating new hardware found and prompt for a driver or if the driver was previously installed and you have rkbatchupgrade program running then flashable area 1 will change from orange to green to show it's ready to be flashed.

The sound i hear when connecting the tablet isnt the usual sound i hear when connecting a device via usb.Its more like a drowned out thud like beep. When i disconnect the device it beeps normally.Sounds like something isnt right....Anyhow i turned the slider to the off position and, held the home button and plugged into the pc and heard the thud like beep and that was it..Nothing about installing a driver popped up..I tried to plug in the same way witht the RKandroidbatchupgrade program running and nothing there either.I dont get a orange light, green light nothing..What do you suppose is going on? Can you please give me some more advice?

Thank you,

Hi n2droid ;-)

I got my Droid back to work by following exectly sequence proposed by FameWolf

Only small observation I have to add:
It didn't work from Vista (my first try),
I has not test it from Win7.
It work perfectly on my old-good-true XP ;-)

Courage!

BTW, I test it for several images and constat successful result avery time.

P.S. Perhaps strange, but IT IS My personal choise
to (at least) try something new on Vista.
Well, it just to say:
- if it work on Vista - it will anywhere ;-)

flushback666,

Is it possible to take one of your fav froyo's for the rk2818 device you have and swap out the boot.img and the bootloader.bin from ours to give use a froyo that doesn't have the problem the craig version has? Realistically if I have to pic between shad's 4.3 android 2.1 and a froyo that only give me 200mb of internal storage I'm going to pick the 2.1 every time and I've in fact regressed my tablet back to that version. I've been reading up to see what all has to be changed but I'm not sure if I'm missing any pieces.

Do you have a different USB cable to try? I don't always use the Craig cable and stumbled onto one that didn't let my Win7 pc recognize the tablet. Once I tried a diff one, I was able to get the drivers to work. Might be worth a try in case something has gone awry with your cable.
