It took me some time to understand that this will not fix the split partitions in the sh20 firmware.

;)

Alright Mark - I did this just for you:

The file below is a flashable fix flash loop that finally works and can be flashed without the loop on any of the newer firmwares.

http://www.mediafire...yvf3fyu2od7qd7s

Now that you can safely flash back to any of the older firmwares, you have that pesky internal SD card that is partitioned in two.  Flash this file below and your internal is automagically repartitioned to one big FAT partition.

Hello everyone!
I am new to the world of android ereader/tablet modding, and in my first attempt, i have somehow failed miserably. I have rooted/modded several android phones, this proved to be a bit different. I was following this guide: http://www.slatedroi...Beginners_Guide
And when i got to the part that says "unless and until you have taken some of the steps necessary to prevent the fatal flash-loop caused by the flawed Pandigital firmware upgrade" which took me to this page, i flashed the files just fine, then when i got back into the OS, I had No touch screen response. I figured, "Ill just install the new firmware and it will be fine", so i flashed Kewlguys: http://www.slatedroi...954#entry136954 , and i still have no touch... Ive tried disconnecting the battery, resetting it, taking out the sdcard and battery for a few seconds and rebooting, all kinds of stuff, and still nothing seems to work. Someone please help lol, ive never actually ended up completely stuck like this before.

Greetings all you smart folks out there. I too have somehow killed my white PD Novel. I can't seem to get any code to correctly install. The load seems to just stop after the scroll bar gets about 1/8 of the way across. If I just let it boot normal, it gets into a boot loop where I see the original pandigital novel screen with all the letters on it. I've worked days on it trying everything I can find in this forum and still it won't complete a code load.

Any clues? I feel like it's now a brick.
Thanks,
~Steve

Check your internal and external SD cards to make sure you don't have another zip file in root. Also, check to make sure you have a correctly named fully downloaded FW zip file.

You also might try the end of a paperclip in the reset hole, it might take it back to the FW you had before your bad flash attempt.

Hi guys,
I am a newbie and I spend last 3 days reading everything about Pandigital novel.
I am still little confused.
I have pandigital novel white SH20 201110302 K PD INX7E ENG 6410POP, Kernel version 2.6.29.
So I wanted to downgrade to SH 10.I first used kewlguy fixflash.I pressed power and volume for 5 second, saw progressing bar for 1 second and my device rebooted.I was not sure if I did it right so I tried again.
This time I got a guy with exclamation mark.
When I checked my external sd card ,I could not find fixflash zip file there anymore but there were a lot of folders on sd card.I do not know how to continue.
Please,can anybody help me?

Thank you.

Rob

Flashfix does not take long, but I don't know about 1 second. Just plug usb into a PC and check PD_Novel to make sure it is 1 gb unless you installed a larger internal micro sd card. In SH20 firmware it would be split and you would only see half of it and flashfix should repartition it. It is possible it did something to your external sd card instead, which it should not really touch. If I were you, I would erase everything from the external card and put flashfix back on it and try to flash it again.

Edit: Actually the partitions will only be removed after flashing that second file. I would remove everything from the external sd card, put on the first file and flash it. Then remove that file if it is still there, then put on the second file and flash it. Then put on the S10 FW file and flash it.

Thank you for your advice.I did everything what you said.I have flashed it twice. The progressing bar was only 1/4 full (4 seconds)and then my novel rebooted.I have not installed S10 yet.
How can I check if partisions were removed?
ES File Explorer app and some others are not installed on my device anymore.
What S10 FW file should I install?

Thank you for your advice.

Neither of the two flashes will take long, the flashfix or the partition removal flash. There is no kernal or bootloader being flashed.

Hook up via the usb cable to your PC and see if you have about 1 gb in PD_Novel, if the partitions are not removed, you would have about 512 mb. This assumes you have the same micro SD internal card that came with the unit.

That should be because it partitioned the internal SD card into one partition and got rid of the linux partition where those apps were installed.

The last one was from December of 2010 I believe, I thought you knew what you wanted and why. I would not recommend the S10 firmware as it locks it down just as a reader unless you install one of the hacked S10 firmwares from SlateDroid.

It is 1 gb.Now I am confused even more. You say that you would not recommend S10 ?
I thougt that I must downgrade from S20 to S10 in order to get Market.
And I would like to still be able to use my novel as a reader.

Thanks.

No, Kewlguy has a full firmware with GAPPS(google applications) which includes market for the SH20 firmware in the firmware development forum. His FW is in the first thread stickied at the top of the forum. He also has a market only flash in his SD card enhancement thread.

The SH20 firmware comes with the B&N(Barnes and Noble) app which basically functions like the S10 firmware, but you have a real android device with an app launcher. You can also add Kindle, Kobo, and many other ereader apps since it is an open platform android device at that point.

I want market only,so I believe this is the file I need :OPDN v2.1.0 BASE - SH20_OPDN_2_10_BASE_PD_INX7E_ENG_6410POP.zip (http://www.mediafire...5cz1t3nmba7tnxy)
MD5 Hash: 794d6c2c2f36642961ea6e09058ea70a and 2.1.1. suplement after. Am I right?
Do I have to factory reset my novel or I can just continue?I have already flashed it twice .

How do I know if my ROM is non OP or OP ?
Sorry for asking so many questions ?

Thank you.

Yes, but you will need to flash the market only file from Kewlguy's sd card enhancement thread to attempt to then get market running. You will likely get a no matching content error and then have to flash my market fix.

No don't factory reset now, it is not necessary at this point.

All S20 roms are open platform, you should get a home screen with the included apps on it when it boots after the second flash and also after the supplemental flash.

Edit: Those market files can be flashed at any time, so you might want to play with what you have for a while and make sure it seems to be working. Maybe install an app or two from slideme market or install an app sideloaded via esfile explorer.

Why, you have totally lost me, I thought you said market was working above?

To get the apps, you have to flash the original firmware file twice. You said you did above, so I thought you did. Not the 2.11 supplement or the market only flashes, those just happen once. All of this is outlined in Kewlguy's first post. You might try putting the firmware file on your SD card again and flashing it again, but I'm not sure if that will work at this point or not. I really don't think it could hurt anything though.

I assume by now you realize that the previous zip file you flash has to be deleted before you put another one on the SD card and flash it.

That's good, but you still don't have the apps that are suppose to come with SH20 FW? If not, you might try putting the original base FW file from Kewlguy on the SD card and flash it again.
As I previously said, it is the second flash of the SH20 FW that installs the included apps.

I guess you would need to flash the market only file again and follow the steps you did before to get it working.

Not sure you can get the B&N app from market, but I believe there is Nook which allows access to the same bookstore. You probably won't need slideme if you have market, but the other apps are useful to have as they are the movie player, music player, photo viewer, and utilities. You have said these don't work from the hone screen, but you don't have any of these apps on the app screen either?
