Tired of the over bright LEDs? Here's what I did. While I had the case open to get into some other foolery, I used a little black model paint to paint the inside of the case. Works great! Notice the aluminum tape arount the edges of the screen? That's to get rid of the over bright backlight shine.
It definitely keeps the light from shinning out. No, the screen doesn't seem any brighter. I did the tape job hoping to cure (at least a bit) a gray casting that I have at the bottom of screen (thought it might be a bad backlight thing). Anyways, didn't cure that problem. That problem (the gray casting) is, I am sure from the touch screen. If I take a close look at the casting, it's definitely arranged in a grid pattern... and that makes me think touch screen...
I have the same grid patern that you mention. I allso did the model paint to fix the LEDs and it works great .. It's a shame that the device is so hard to open without breaking the plastic clips inside.
