New IMX515 firmware (12-18-2010) and my experiences...

I purchsed 2 tablets from nowsupplier, one for my wife and one for myself. When I received the package I found that I received a white one and a silver one. This was perfect for us, I opted to give the white one to my wife(seemed fitting) and I took the silver. Well, after we opened them and had been using them for a while, I realized there were several differences in the two. Mine already had the true market installed as well as a couple other apps that hers didn't. Also, hers had 3 options when powering off (Airplane Mode, Silent Mode, and Power Off), mine only had one (Power Off). Hers always had a pop up that had to be force closed on start up and her battery warning seemed to come on pretty quickly... mine always started normal and the battery seemed to last a lot longer.
Mine had it's own quirks though. It appeared as though the screen had been removed at some point or it was a really sloppy job on the initial install. There's debris inside that needs to be removed and you can almost see a faint glimpse of some the attaching clips around the outer edge of the screen in some areas. Other than that, it works fine. They both have some screen shake when trying to delete apps, but we can still delete them. The touch screens are pretty responsive, we both use our nail to navigate which works nicely.
To try to determine the differences in the two, I took a look at the "About Device" page. The only difference I could see was in the build number at the bottom. Mine showed: imx51_bbg-eng2.2FRF85B eng.root.20101129.082308 test-keys. Hers showed the almost the same: imx51_bbg-eng2.2FRF85B eng.root.20101019.082308 test-keys. I assumed the differnece was the release date of the firmware?.. ???
Well, after a lot of research on several forums(I mean a lot) and some playing around with different software, I decided to try to reflash her firmware with the 12/18/2010 version that was posted yesterday. I had already successfully added the true market to hers, but the battery warning was driving her nuts... and I figured if I liked the new version enough, I'd flash mine too. I backed both of ours up a couple times(different methods) just incase I had any issues and then gave it a shot. I used the Touch8 loader from ATP and just renamed the .img file to "update.atp". After about 18 mins or so, the tablet rebooted as it should into the new firmware. It was a great improvement, no more pop up on start up that had to be force closed, the apps all seemed to be in English which was nice, mine still has some Chinese ones installed. The true market was installed but some things still seemed a little "buggy". I found that the clock and date couldn't be updated or changed and the battery warnings were still showing up. When I checked the "About Device" page again, the build number still was older than mine?.. Seemed odd since this was supposed to be the latest release.
At this point, I decided to take the route I had initially intended on taking and flash my img on to hers. I used the same loader, everything went as planned except it didn't reset after 25 mins or so. No problem, I just reset it myself and it seems to run much better now. Market runs flawlessly, I used it continuously for 2 hours this morning without getting the battery warning and no pop ups to force close on start up. The only problem I have run into is the date seems to reset itself after powering off some of the times.
I'm now thinking that the case on mine may have been opened to replace the firmware at some point before being shipped, possibly at the factory or by nowsupplier. Does anyone else have the same build number? Does the build number relate to the firmware?

Hearing from what you are sayng, i guess the firmware of your device is a more stable one and since you were able to flash it to her device and worked fine, it wouldnt hurt to actually put it up on some file sharing website and give us the link. we can always check out the firmware and let others know about it.
One think you forgot to mention in your post was the physical difference between the two devices, like how many speakers or any marking on their back or were there any screws on their sides.
Thanks

As far as differences in our tablets, there are none that I can see other than one has a white back and one silver. They both have one speaker, then a red led that lights when charging next to the 30 pin connector, the 30 pin connector, a reset button, SD card slot, headphone jack and then the mic port.
On that note, does anyone really know of a good way to distinguish between these pads? I've read so many posts and have seen so many different references, but no one has a true list of individual characteristics to distinguish them by. When I was going to purchase the AndroidTouchPC firmware, I had no idea which one to actually get. Their discription is so vague... and the funny thing is if you watch their tutorial video the one he flashes actually ends up having the g-sensor problem.

You'll need to follow the same process that you did when you installed the firmware that gave you problems, here's a link to the thread with MP4's video tutorial:

Can you backup the internal sd card to the external card or to your pc?
I've googled the Touch8 I've seen on the forums, but can't find where to get it. I'm not looking for warez. If this iis commercial software, I have no problem paying for it. I didn't steal the table, so why try to steal the software.
Thanks for your post and please let me know.

Hi
I've (probably) the same slate. Also Fr-809 from Aliexpress. Tried to update with the Android Touch PC firmware (search in thread "unlisted Cortex Tablets) but that firmware failed. Before flashing i made a backup from the original firmware with the AndroidToucPC flash and backup tool. After the fail flashed back original firmware and then tried the Xaumod firmware (search same thread) and that was succesfull. All is functioning perfect now with Froyo. The only drawback is you have to open your precious slate to flash the Xaumod firmware. If thats a problem you can get my "old" fr-809 backup. It's 4G !!
